I have caught bullheads on chicken breast cut in 1/2" squares and marinated in strawberry kool aid. Stays on the hook well and is tough enough to catch several fish on a piece. The chicken toughens up in the lake. Can be fished just off the bottom with a bobber. Good luck.

Has anyone tried Jello chicken or Jello hotdogs for bull head. I am also open to any other baits that do not break the bank when fishing three youngsters on a regular basis. Worm digging here sucks even with electric probes.

I’ve caught tons of bull heads on cherry jello hot dogs. Lots of catfish too. When I say “lots” I mean 20 or 30 a year. I just catch enough to eat though. Could probably catch more that way but my freezer is only so big and I like em fresh before I freeze em usually.

Have you tried finding night crawlers on lawns after a rain? I usually can find dozens. Trick is not to shine light directly on them or use a flashlight with a red lens which doesn't scare them.

I don’t use jello marinated cut bait often, but when I do I add some Garlic Salt to the mixture.

Met guy in central SC who made catfish bait using fresh chicken livers and hotdogs coated/marinated in dry cherry jello. He was catching 30+ lb fish!! Got get 'em.

Take one of your old coolers and fill with topsoil 6" from the top. Drill some 1/8" holes thru the side 3" down as this will allow airflow. Put a container of COUNTED worms inside. Cover with old newspaper or peat moss and apply a dusting of yellow cornmeal every couple of weeks. At birth, earthworms emerge small but fully formed, lacking only their sex structures which develop in about 60 to 90 days. They attain full size in about one year. Scientists predict that the average lifespan under field conditions is four to eight years, while most garden varieties live only one to two years.
Food Waste for Worms
• Apples• Baked beans• Banana peels• Bread• Cabbage• Cake• Celery• Cereal• Cheese• Cream cheese
• Cream of wheat• Cucumber• Deviled eggs• Eggshells• Grapefruit peels• Grits• Lemon peels• Lettuce
• Molasses• Oatmeal• Onion skins• Orange peels• Pancakes• Pears• Pineapple• Pizza crust• Potatoes• Tea leaves
• Tomatoes
Take one of your old coolers and fill with topsoil... (show quote)

Thanks, I will try that. When you say COUNTED worms, are you talking store bought fishing bait? I have never heard that term before. Have you tried that with night crawlers as well?

I used to compete with my brother doing that. At 72 and broken, not so much any more. I will be teaching my grandson in another year, maybe even next spring. If anyone else is reading this, a word of advice: find an old normal bulb flashlight. The new high powered lights are just to bright. They light up the whole yard. Thanks. It was actually fun getting bait. I have also used a WWII military field phone ringer on electric rods as well as dry mustered and water poured into holes. I don't mind buying a few containers of worms or crawlers, just not several tubs a week.

Does liver work well for bullheads? Liver is a bit hard to keep on the hook with 10 year old's constantly fidgeting with their rods. I have had great luck with channel cat, but until now never targeted bullhead.

You can use M&M’s, oatmeal, or anything else. Put bait or whatever on treble hook. Cut about a 3” round out of a pair of the Mrs.’ pantyhose. Wrap hook and bait with pantyhose. Tie it off on the hook shank with thread and put it to work.
