Mrs spirit and I were together for a year or so before we tied the knot. She was a good Catholic girl and the church didn't seem to mind as long as she went to confession regularly. I guess the good father wanted to hear all about it.

That is funny because neither the catholic or Protestant chaplain would approve of our marriage because we different religious beliefs. That was 64 years ago last month. The mayor of the German town married us

I was of no faith and Kath was a catholic - for us to get married in the church I would have been required to petition the Bishop and basically beg his forgiveness and permission to marry the woman I loved. That was when mrs spirit and the church parted ways. We were married in her parents' house by a justice of the peace. The Navy was not real enthusiastic about our marriage either - "if the Navy had wanted you to have a wife, one would have been issued to you in your seabag".
