Another 'big fish' story !

Article 'borrowed' from 'The Free Press', Mankato, Minn. !

Johnny Boutchee (on right in photo), a 69-yr.-old retired maintenance worker, while
fishingone of his favorite spots
on the Minnesota River, caught and landed this 45-in. paddlefish that turned out to be too heavy
for a 40-lb. scale !

Paddlefish are a close relative of sturgeon and can reach sizes up to 5 ft./60lbs. !

Just over a year ago he pulled
in a 52 in./38 lb. muskie, and recently caught a 35 lb. catfish !
Way to go, Johnny !

You'll have to wait for some
of our midwestern members (Randy/Oz ?) to chime in; I believe
that they're mostly found in the Mississippi watershed, including tributaries and/or lakes, but I'm not sure ! There are supposedly some in Lake Perry, where we've scheduled our May outing; for now, just taking a 'wait and see' attitude towards those plans !

I did read that some people like them, and that they're considered to be pretty tasty ! Another odd fact is that since they're closely
related to sturgeon, their eggs
are considered a delicacy (sort
of an 'alternate' caviar), and fairly pricey (about $25/oz.) !

Paddlefish are protected and must be released in Minnesota there is no season for them

If they taste like sturgeon thatโ€™s a good thing . Not a big fan of any fish row except to catch more fish ๐Ÿ˜†

WOW?!??!
Johnny was the custodian in the building I managed from 2005-2007 in Mankato. I'm a native from "Kato" and I bet I know EXACTLY where he caught this :)
Small world or what ?|?!?!?!
