Piers? Only one I know is Huntington Beach. Is there another? I've never fished from a pier and there's a pretty nice one in Imperial Beach where I used to live. I always walked the surf and fished that. Too many other people on the pier, and from what I observed, most of them were awfully rude. Did not appear to be much fun. But, to each their own.

Mornin' Spirit, I enjoy fishing off most piers. I think, the longer the pier the more friendly it is. It's the shorter dock/piers that get nasty, especially when a family or two with a bunch of kids move on to the pier. Then I will leave for better places.

Lived in Huntington Beach 50 yrs. Google Orange County California fishing piers. There are 3 piers within 30 min drive South of HB pier with serious pier fishermen. HB pier is good early or late when tourists are asleep. In addition Seal Beach pier is 20 min drive north of HB pier with beach in between. Halibut, corbina, surf perch, sharks, etc. Google "striped bass Huntington Beach" and fishing message boards. That's where the latest fighing reports for pier and surf fishing are. I live in North Carolina now so can't do a meetup.

Stripers? Didn't know they traveled that far south. Very cool. Never saw one in San Diego.

Belmont shore pier is in Long Beach (15 39th Pl, Long Beach CA} Seal Beach pier is in Seal Beach (Main St & Ocean Ave, Seal Beach Ca), Newport Beach pier is at 70 Newport Pier, Newport Beach Ca, Balboa Pier is 2 mi further south at 1 Balboa Pier, Newport Beach Ca. It is 20 miles from Belmont shore pier (northern most) to Balboa Pier (southern most) or about 50 minutes from each other. Huntington Beach pier is between Seal Beach pier and Newport Beach pier. They were still active when I left Huntington Beach three years ago. They have varying hours and pier regulars go early and/or late. I preferred Newport and Balboa piers. Hope this helped. You can check them out within a few hours in the morning. Take your gear and it will promote advice.

The striper fishery was first introduced into Newport Harbor many years ago and slowly has recovered from almost ceased existence. They are fished late at night and the recovery has been kept quiet for obvious reasons.

Maybe It's Bonito he's talking about, they resemble stripers. Just a guess.I have fished high and low in southern California beaches and I have never seen a striper. Just sayin...

Newport Beach has a pier also. You will have to pay for parking near the pier. I guess the parking also pertains to Huntington Beach pier.If you park on street away from Pacific Coast Hwy, I am not certain if there are parking meters on the nearby streets off of of Pacific Coast Hwy, as there are parking meters on Pacific Coast Hwy.

They are stripers. Google Huntington Beach striped bass. They give seminars at the Long Beach fishing show every year. I have caught tons of Benito. We considered Bonito trash fish.
