How do you store your rods and reels?

I’m thinking about building some rod storage in my garage, but I’d like to keep the dust off of the reels. Anyone want to share their storage cabinets? Any ideas?

I put some nails in the exposed studs of my garage walls and hung them horizontally. I figured I’d dust and oil them when needed and save the $ on a cabinet.

Cabinets are great if you want to show off your collection. Otherwise, if the only thing you're concerned about is dust on reels, just keep the reels in a drawer. Or get some reel covers.

Yup. Those are a great idea. Didn’t think about them. That’s the direction I’ll go. 👍

I made a hanging rack similar to this and mounted it on the ceiling. https://www.cabelas.ca/product/98903?productVariantId=278623

I have built fine furniture and cabinetry for 40+ yrs. Finally retired a couple of years ago. Thought I would create the "PERFECT" rod storage cabinet, hey.... I have skills, tools, design ideas, practicality perspective, this should be a slam-dunk......wrong .
There IS NO such animal. I have racks, drawers, shelves, etc. If this sport was static (equipment-wise) like some are, it might be achievable to dream of a do-all storage solution, reality says otherwise.... I bought two rods this past week.... hope they'll fit my rack(s). Good luck with the dream !

I store reels separately from my rods. Protects the line from UV as well as my reels from dust.
I don’t have great cabinetry or carpentry skills, but I had a wall where I did build a cabinet that stored around 25- 30 of my rods. Had to give it up when we moved. I have pictures somewhere.

A professional guide gave me a tip re my spinning gear. Put a/the hook into the hook keeper, take the slack out and then turn the entire gear with one hand while holding onto the return line with the other. It wraps the return line around the rod and then simply attach the return line to one of the middle eyes. It totally eliminates entanglements between rods.
