Just curious if anybody has any secrets they want to share on catching striped bass in reservoirs? I’m from Indiana and generally we have smaller reservoirs so the pressure is more intense.
Nighttime top water ! If res has herring then u can get some decent top water action !
U get about @ 6 week window usually June thru mid July . This is what I get in PA , fish up to 31#’s most teenagers !
All in shallows once herring move in !
The fish should be schooling now. Watch for diving birds and fish busting the water. White 1 oz bucktails or about any topwater plug will catch them. When the fish go down or you are in an area that you know is holding fish drop a 1 oz white or silver spoon to the bottom and quickly reel it back to the top. A lot of fish will hit it on the fall. Live bait always works good. If you have blueback herring, threadfin shad or gizzard shad all work good. Watch your graph and put down rods with the bait above the fish and freeline a few baits too. Good Luck

I have never seen stripers busting the service in schools at this particular reservoir. I’m not sure if it’s because of the boat traffic or fishing pressure. I have seen white bass busting all over. What kind of presentation do you use with bucktails? I’ve caught them on bluegills, shad, and spoons.
This time of the year on the lakes in SC they are always schooling but the lakes don't have a lot of boat traffic. The fish are usually in 25-40ft here. Cast the bucktails and let it fall 10 to 15 ft then a bouncing retrieve back to you.
I thought the Striper season doesnt start until October 1st. It runs until June 1st? correct me if I am wrong. I am prepping my pontoon for Lake Moultre which is a GREAT striper lake.
YankeeBastid you are correct for the Santee-Cooper lakes. That season has only been in place a couple of years. He is in Indiana so I don't know if he has a season there or not. The reason the season on Santee-Cooper was put in place was to stop the night fishing for stripers at night. When we ran lights to draw stripers and bait to the boats thousands were killed every night. So many short fish were killed do to the stress of the hot water and deep hooked fish. With the season, size limit and number of fish limits changed Santee to slowing becoming a big fish Lake again. Hope to see you on the lake in Oct.
I did go night fishing once with my son at the dam. When the stripers started feeding the whole lake around me erupted with bait trying to escape. It was exciting to see. The lights from the dam itself lit the area. I was teaching my son how to navigate by the lights on the towers that we knew the locations of. I didn't know the reason for the limit, so I thank you for the education. Look for the black Bennington.
Have caught them on spoons trolling.
We have a 2 fish limit in Indiana. Catch 2 per person and go home. Warm water months will kill any fish released.
Anybody use flutter jack spoons? How do you fish them? I do vertical jig or vertical drop and reel up fast or cast and let it sink then reel fast.
