Hi everyone, I'm in a pickle here and need to see if anyone can help. Long story short. My fishing bud left his Shimano Magumlite GT-1581 in my boat after a road trip we took to go fish in Green Bay. Needless to say when I unloaded, the first 6 inches of his favorite one piece rod has now become a two piece rod. Ouch.
I don't want to deliver the bad news and am looking for a replacement for him. I saw one out on Ebay but times are a little tougher than that. Any chance anyone has one they might part with?

Ouch. Was it your fault it got broken? I know I’d feel responsible, but just because it’s your boat, I’m not sure that without some kind of action you caused for it to be broken, it’s your responsibility. Might have to start a go fund me for it. I’d kick in a donation for a fellow fisherman in need.

Lipsticker, After bouncing around for 77 years and been in some unfortunate situations, my advise is to tell him up front what happened. It just sounds like it was an accident and I would want my friend to let me know if my rod was broken under a similar situation. My thoughts.

Stuco, Fault isn't really what matters, We are talking about my Bud. Good man and he would do the same for me if the table was turned. I'll keep looking and thanks for the G.F.M offer.
There's a whole bunch of members and maybe I'll get luck.

Sterba43, I'd rather eat glass, Mark's my Bud and and I sure don't need to add any more "What can go wrong now" to his world. If and when I can't find him replacement I'll figure something out. Till then I'm gonna look high and low, Cause he'd do the same for me. Your right accidents happen but friends do what they can to lessen the sting when they can.

Maybe you can find a rod builder and he can make it a 2 piece. Than your friend would be a proud owner of the rare rod.

I hear you lipsticker, I really don't ever care much about fault myself. I'd handle it just like you are. Good friends, right behind family, are what makes this life as good as it is. Good luck.

Ya' I guess I can tell him it's a "New" break down model that only needs 5 feet 2 inches of room rather than the whole 5 feet 8 inches.

A couple of things here, first a rod crafter is not going to make it into a two-piece rod. The end result would be a rod that would not be much of a rod. It would be cheaper to buy a new rod. What I would do is call him, maybe he knew that the rod was broke and just left it there to get your reaction. Was that rod, the only rod that he had in the boat. if so, you wouldn't think that he would forget it. I would call him first and ask a few questions. Good luck!

Two of us in the boat, 12 maybe 14 rods... We go loaded. Yes I know I'm S.O.L doing anything with the "New Custom" I'm looking to replace. No Fixing that. Just looking for a way to keep things right. We do mess with each other about everything but fishing... We're kinda sick, but best of chum's. Hell if I didn't have this beautiful wife of mine I might just think about... Na' He cooks pretty good but ain't all that to look at! Haha
