Earlier today, with winds blowing towards the beach and an overcast sky, I decided to make a run over to check out Island Beach State Park. I can report that the beach was busy with anglers but I cannot say that anyone was landing fish.
Since I was going to be there less than two hours, I decided to use up some brine shrimp that I had stored in the garage as my only bait. Oddly, about 1/3 of the time, when I reeled in my line, the shrimp was replaced by a sand crab.
Now I know that no one wants to catch sand crabs but it does raise a question. If all I caught were live sand crabs, was I "skunked"? An optimist would probably say "no".
That's my story and I am sticking to it...!!!

If I am targeting larger fish and end up with small bluegill, I enjoy the bluegill, but consider myself skunked. Sometimes I fish for bluegill.

I read the fishing report for LBI, it says they're bringing them in off the beach there, was thinking of heading down there sometime this week

Check my brother bob post.
Tie a whole clam on a # 5 hooks on a high low rig and 3-4 oz pyramid lead weight
Adjust the weight according to the wind
Use elastic string to tie on the clam wrap the clam around the hook.
Sand spike the rod and enjoy the view
Do not walk away from the rod

I agree with someone below who said: "Use them as bait." Yes, strippers and others love them.

Okay, so weren’t skunked. You were collecting bait and forgot to go fishing. It’s a story, you have to sell it.
