Okay cool, some people say all the blood rushes into the fishes meat and causes it to taste worse if it’s not bled but I’m not sure how much that matters

Mostly people bleed their fish for the meat taste but more importantly to get the blood out of the roe that they want to harvest

It isn't necessary, but to reduce the bloodline in the fishes meat and keep it able to be fresh longer people bleed fish. Some people like myself who both fishes and spearfishes, brain their fish as well. I only would bleed a larger fish as smaller fish don't matter much if I'm just going to fry them, but all of the fish I shoot I brain, to make it more safe to handle and to kill the fish humanely. By braining(stabbing the fish in the brain to kill instantly) the fish, I am also stopping it from sending stress hormones that can make the fish spoil faster than if I kept it alive and kicking. That's why when lots of fishermen catch fish, they put it on ice, to keep it more fresh and not spoil the meat. Throwing it straight on ice will keep the fish alive for how long and it will send stress hormones throughout its body, but because it is already on a cold surface, it won't spoil as if it were left in the sun or a empty bucket for example.

I like to bleed my salmon. Not sure if it’s as easy with all fish but you cat just use your finger in the gill and pull at the artery in there till you snap through. Then the water kinda cleans them off while you fish more. By the time you filet they’re damn near sushi grade.

I only bleed tuna I have most for sushi

Bluefish should be bled asap. My neighbor tested two black seabass this year. He bled only one. The bled fish had much whiter fillets.

I bleed mine and get them cooled as quick as possible. I always take a fish Cooler with me when fishing, never know for sure what I might catch that I’ll want for Dinner
Cattle, hogs, sheep ,goats are all bled as soon as possible after slaughter. I bet all you deer hunters bled your deer first thing. So why would you not bled fish especially catfish. I bled mine now and meat is much better. To quote RJS “Just saying”
When I went with a couple guys fishing on Lake Erie for walleye they cut the gills with a pair of scissors to bleed them out and then put the fish on ice in the cooler right after that. Like someone said the meat was nice and white and no off flavor.

Have always bled my keepers no matter what species. And then onto ice.
In my opinion, it makes the walleye taste even better. I always bleed walleye.
