To get an honest answer walk the beach before hand and talk to those fishing. Then go to bait shop and compare what they tell you.

live mullet, 3-6 inches, u can catch them in the surf with castnet this time of year. and u can cut some in chunks.

Don't think big redfish run yet chasing mullet, clams are hardy baits that stay on hook well. Sand fleas next and tube worms match the hatch. Shore line minnows always work too! Sure fresh dead shrimps work everywhere.
