I’d like some feedback on why most new baitcast rods have what seems to me excessively long handles? Personally I find the cumbersome and unnecessary. The also don’t work well with my pole holders...
What do you think?
Mostly to provide the ability to make longer, two handed, casts.
Longer casts. Work best for lure fishing.
Longer cast and great for pitching into small spaces!! But bait casting rods are more for finesse fishing not to just lay on the pole holder!
My peeve is the two piece handles . WHY?? Always getting snagged in pole holders.
@keepitreel exactly, these people are using the wrong pole for the wrong function. They're not made for bait and waiting, however, of course you can do it
I prefer round baitcasters specifically designed for fishing for catfish and I do use multiple pole holders on my boat at one time.
Ok I’ll go along with two handed casts but a lot of the new ones would accommodate four hands or more..
If the handle is that long, four hands, then you have surf casting rods!
Make new rod holders, or purchase for your needs. I’ve made PVC holders attached to contractors metal stakes and pipe clamps, very durable.... have also attached the PVC to Milk crates ... works great, but you will need to weight the grate down
Great feedback. Thank you all for you responses.
It's for leverage setting the hook .when bass fishing you should always have the pole in you're hand. The end of the pole should res against your stomach while setting the hook. Simply put it's a fulcrum and a lever. At least that's my opinion.
Is the average length too much or not enough?
Heck, it took me forever to find a spinning rod with the old style cork handle and two ree holderl rings. It's what I learned to fish with, and love them because you can adjust the rod balance to fit the lure weight by moving the reel around. Not for bigger fish of course, but for casual lake fishing they are lighter, less fatiguing, and in my hands at least, more responsive. I think they are called Tennessee something or others these days.
