I lost a rod once, luckily i had another, and i rigged up the biggest hook i had, and drug it across the bottom, and snagged the line. But it just fell off the dock, it wasn't pulled by a fish.

Odds are the rod is hung up on the bottom very close to where it disappeared. Texas rig a very large hook and fan cast from where the rod went into the lake. It may not work, but if it does, you're back in business.
Good luck!

it happened to us, on a boat in Lake Okeechobee with a guide a few years back. Luckily we were in fairly shallow water and he dragged a snag hook and got it back.

I dropped one over the side of the boat grabbed another and thought I was lucky when I had it at the top of the water, then it fell off and have not seen it since.

When I was in my early teens a friend and I stayed out all night Bass fishing. I was using a fly rod with Bass bugs and streamers. My friend caught a couple of large Bluegills early in the morning and suggested that they would be our breakfast. He cut off the heads and gutted them to roast over a small driftwood fire; I took the head of one and hooked it onto a streamer, tossed it out about ten feet and set the rod down leaning over a small bush. We sat down to enjoy our fresh fish meal. A while later I looked up and was greeted with the sight of the reel and cork handle of the rod bobbing down the middle of the cove towards the main part of the lake. I kicked off my sneakers and stripped my shirt, and swam out after it. When I got hold of it I was towed a bit before I could make progress back towards the bank. Halfway back I saw the fish at the surface, but mostly the splashes it made. My friend yelled to me “hey Jim, he’s bigger than you are”! About ten feet from the bank he made a sudden run and broke off...but I got the rod back!

I always carried a kiteline winder with a heavy duty snap-swivel tied to the end. Also carried a 2-3 oz. banana weight with a 3/0 salt water treble hook split-ringed on one end. Filed the points off of the hook to help prevent it from penetrating wood. If needed, would snap the weight onto the kite line and use it to drag bottom to recover items (rods) dropped overboard. Worked great for me.

If you think you know where it is, get a good "fishing magnet" and try to ring her up with that.
