Well, Gordon, there is always a first. I was just a kid and to get bait, if we didn't dig earth worms, we had to sein stock tanks or creeks for minnows. Well, several of my relatives, my dad, and I were going fishing so we were seining this stock tank.

The banks were muddy and as I walked out to help, bare footed, i stepped on a veruy small catfish and it locked its fins between my big toe and the next one. It was wedged in and I had to push one fin further in to get the other one out of my toes. It was painful and a mess. But now you've heard of someone stepping on catfish. Just Sayin...RJS

I used to fish with a guy that when he caught a small hammerhead shark, he would bend the bill backwards so it looked like a ball cap, then release it. He thought it was hilarious to watch it try to go under water but couldn’t. The poor shark would do that in circles around my boat until it died. I’ve never been cruel to any animal and I quit fishing with him. He would laugh his butt off watching it. 🤬

The only so called stingers are related to the very small channel catfish. If not handled right they can poke you with their pectoral fin and it sometimes can cause a problem. I have a long story about that, but not now. Never cut them off any catfish for all of the reasons stated.

Excuse me sir, but I don't care for people downing Home school teachers. My 2 Daughters are great Teachers. Both have a Degree. One has a Master's in Literature. She chose to Hone School because the Schools near her weren't good. Also Home Schoolers have Won the Scripps spelling Bee in the past few years. The advantage is they get 1 on 1 teaching.

Catfish, what does this have to do with the catfish topic? I’m just curious. I can’t find anything about what Fatman is writing about.

You know how things kinda stray away from the original topic most of the time. It was in reference to a certain someone ( Jeremy) making fun of home school teachers trying to scare their kids into believing catfish are dangerous. I don’t remember ever learning about catfish in school but this person asked “did you go to a private school or homeschooled by a poisonous or stinging wanna be teacher?” And it went from there.🤷‍♂️

One thing I have learned from this thread is exactly the reason I don’t mess with catfish. Once while wade fishing, a guy down from me had caught a Gafftop catfish. He stupidly put it on a floating stringer. All of a sudden he screamed bloody murder and blood was gushing from his leg. A Gafftop can grow to be over 50 pounds like a freshwater catfish and their dorsal fin is very long. This one was about 20 pounds. It’s dorsal hadhit bone it went so deep. A few of us ran over to him to help him get out of the water. The darn Gafftop was going nuts and I was worried about one of us getting stuck so I cut the stringer. We had to apply a tourniquet while someone went to get help. No cellphones back in the day. Finally an ambulance showed up and took him away. I’ve never fished for catfish and I hate catching a hardhead when I’m saltwater fishing. I generally clamp a pair of channel locks in its mouth and beat the crap out of it til it’s dead. The best thing to do if you do get stuck by one is rub the slime on the fish on the place you got stuck and it eases the pain a little.

How about we all keep on topic which is about cruelty to cats.

If you need to keep up the schooling topic, please start another topic.

I’ll agree with that GSM. One has nothing to do with the other.

If you hook something you can’t handle cut it loose immediately with the shortest amount of line left on it as possible. I only had to do that once. Water Moccasin with a small Bluegill I had caught in its fangs.

Better yet take up crocheting or embroidery.
Let the real men and women of the sport of fishing enjoy it and quit abusing the fish.

Be care the 2 I mentioned have needles.
Would not want you to get hurt or poke an eye out.

I noticed from the original post that CARL has been on the stage for almost two years and that was his 3rd post. The antithesis of spirit. He has over 8600 in a year. Spirit is loquacious. CARL is taciturn. Your English lesson for the day. You're welcome.
