Exactly. Need to have rules too. If all those ladies are going on the boat. Bikinis are required. Bring your own Beer. Bring your own fishing gear. Other than that it should be fun. Those ladies will want to go get tan and kick back. They will probably not want to go the second time you launch to fish. The choppy water will keep them at home. You can take it to a lake or something to to go camping and kick back with the ladies sometime.

Remind them of the Sharks and that the Sharks like Bikinis too. :)

Haha...yep....tanning has been brought up already...they do like fishing so far..( as little as we’ve done) seasickness is definitely an issue...thats why when they’re with me we probably stick to the bay.

Dramamine will take care of the sea sickness.

Think dry when you go out. You’ll be able to use your boat more when it’s cold if you can stay dry when it’s choppy and blowing. I was thinking center console too but now leaning towards dual console/walkthrough. Take a look and consider comfort as well as fishability.

Danger 25,
In Hawaii, a 17' whaler is the most desired craft for fishing, both inshore and offshore. If you were planning to go offshore a lot, twin outboards will take care of safety issues.

If you want to make the girls/ ladies happy, get a boat with at least a cuddy cabin or even better a small sleep cabin WITH A HEAD !!!!! A porta potti can fit in most small cuddys. If sea sickness is a big deal it is with my family, a dose of dramamine and a 1/2 hour sleep and they are back on their feet. As far as size, I prefeer 18 feet for anywhere off shore outside of a river or sheltered bay. I don't see ANY need for 2 engines but I am a huge fan of a 6-10 hp kicker t o run in the marsh or trolling in a bay.It does double duty as an emergency means to get you home.4 knots doesn't seem like much till yer main gets a dose of bad fuel/ water in the gas, and stops and yer 5 miles out and in 1 hr. on the kicker yer at your slip . 1 MORE TIME, I love my 20 foot starcraft, has a small sleep cabin, a BIG aft deck for fishing, A big forward deck for sunning, high gunwales so people and kids can't fall out, sits high and dry in rough water that has much bigger boats turning back, is very light and can be towed with a car or 2 wheel drive pu truck, light also means it's easy to power with minimal HP( a chevy/ mercruiser 4 cyl. goes almost 40 mph), Aluminum so a small hole can be repaaired with a piece of beer can and some 1 minute JB weld, and has a bimini top to keep you out of most of the rain or sun when you had enough of either.

Yup, mine is a 1978. Still solid, absolutely nothing in it electronic or puter controlled, cept the Lowrance and VHF. Every boat i ever owned i clean and dielectric grease every electrical connection I can find.Change bulbs to leds, nothing but synthetic oils,Stabil in every drop of gas,Rinse the engine and bildges with fresh water after salt, do the rods and reels at the same time.

Check this link to get started... Buy pre-owned never buy a new boat. You will need to pay to have it pre-checked and have a price check on the boat that you are going to buy. You need to check on all of the other items that are on going expenses like some of the guys on this web-site have said.. Just a word of caution you are dealing with the "SALT WATER ENVIRONMENT" and it's brutal on every thing that its around it, on the land, sea and air. Truth be told in the long run and short run you will be better off going out on "Charter Fishing Boats", a lot safer, better fishing, less hassle and less expensive in the long or short run. Just say from much experience....

I shopped for the boat you described.
I was set in a 21 Carolina when a seasoned boater recommended I check out Parker boats
Bought a 21SE with 150 Yamaha 4stroke. Rides well in moderate chop and capable of skinny water for crabbing etc. 10 yrs and no regrets. Used in Chesapeake bay where sea conditions can change quickly.
Good luck in you search.

Try looking at Bull's Bay boats. Brand new 23' with a 200 Susuki will set you back about $50,000. Thats a boat with no equipment. No trailer. 17' with a 150 would set you back $44,000. As always, you are lucky to get what you pay for, but buying new means your not paying for someone else's headache.

Thanks Katim....but as you can see from my picture, college tuition is coming soon ....im afraid, barring hitting the lottery, it’s gotta be used for now.
