You should have seen the forty foot center console I saw at the tournament I was in. Four four hundreds in a row on the back end.

We got beat up pretty good with the 3 to 5 foot seas and 15 to 20 winds. Couldn't stand up on the deck, had to either sit down or crawl around. Three points of contact all around, or you were on your butt hard. Started slow trolling live bait, but with the rough seas couldn't control the boat at low speed. Went to rigged baits and moved closer to the beach to get on the Lee of the island. It helped and we fished until an engine alarm went off and we had to shut down one engine. It was almost cut off time so we went inside the inlet to check the engine. Engine oil was fine , just a false alarm probably a sensor. We made it back on two engines. Got up Saturday and the forecast was worse than Friday so we pulled the plug and stayed in. Turned out the conditions tight to the beach were OK but we didn't know that until much later.

My youngest son just recently bought a 24 ft pontoon at his wife’s’ suggestion. They have a 10 & a 12 yr old. The whole family enjoys cruising salt and fresh water, near St Marks, FL, fishing when they want to. It’s their first boat, but he says it won’t be their last. They include the family dog.
If mama suggests it, whatcha doing thinking about it??

I'm a Tracker Boat sales consultant and except for loosing the ability to get into those very shallow weedy areas for bass a pontoon is a great choice. The women (if not fishing) like to stretch out and sun bathe and for kids tubing there is NOTHING BETTER. 2 things to caution you about
#1 A TRITOON may cost as much as $3000. more but it is worth every penny WELL SPENT CASH.
#2 If you are going to use the boat a lot buy the largest motor available for that boat. Two reasons for that having the power if you need it is good but not overworking your motor will give you 45-50% better fuel economy and your engine will last much longer.
I've been around boats for over 55 years with being a charter captain for 15 years and a bass tournament fisherman for 20 years Been off the water for the last 4 years because I tore up both my knees but after two surgeries and so far 10 months of my body getting used to a new knee I'm getting a new bass boat in the next two months and going to move down to north central Florida to be closer to 6 of my great grand kids . I'm also going to buy a Suntracker 24 tri toon if you haven't checked them out they have the BEST warranty of anything on the market and are fairly priced. Got kind of long winded there but I believe very strongly of what I said and try to help people from making a mistake with their hard earned money. Good luck to You and Yours. The Capt.

That's a tough break Fly. It sucks when you're looking forward to a special day, have everything all planned out, and mother nature screws everything up. Been there and done that, too many times.

I’ve got a pontoon boat tied to my dock. Bass boat swinging in my boat slip. Pontoon is fishable. 2 fishing chairs in each front and rear. Fished from it many times tied to the dock but not on open water yet. I mainly like the pontoon for evening and night riding. Me and the bass boat do go out fishing about 3-4+ Times a week Tho.

Flyguy, I concur pontoons are very fishable. I take my 20 footer 500 miles every summer. Only thing I would add is a tandem trailer is well worth it. I started out with a single axle, and got some sway with a higher profile boat. Put it on a tandem and pulls great! Other suggestion would be a trolling motor with a remote. Lets you wander around and still control the motor. GO FOR IT!

I have been, or I should say my wife has been thinking that we should get a pontoon. Not that I would give up my Lund Tyee, and it would be an addition. How are they to fish out of and how are they to trailer, load and unload. I have a fishing buddy that had one for about a year and I was on it but, never fished out of it. I never talked to him about how he liked it, but he only had it for about a year, so, I assumed he didn't like it. What do you guys think?

Not bad in a calm river or a lake when the wind ain't blowing. Definitely not a big river rig or rough water unless you like your feet wet. I e only been on smaller ones around 18 feet but you couldn't sell me one for where I fish. There's a reason you won't see them on the Columbia River.
