Leon Hale is a little bit older, but they both grew up in central Texas in the 1930s and ate pinto beans and cornbread and shared many other life experiences. However, the key difference is that Hale quit smoking in his 40s and is still alive at age 90+ and Dad didn't and died at 61. Such a waste - I miss him so much. flag Like · Just Sayin....RJS

I quit smoking three packs of camels a day 30 years ago. Two years ago the drs. removed one third of my left lung thinking I had cancer. I didn’t, it was just scar tissue from having pneumonia three times. That is my guess. I am now 77 years young. My dad made it to 85. Hope to make it there myself.
My only smoking was about a pack a week while I was in the military.
It started while I was in boot camp. We had a few minutes, so the sergeant said "At ease, light 'em up. If you don't smoke, fall out and police the area." .....Wait a minute! If I smoke, I can just stand here and if I don't, I get a work detail???? Somebody give me a cigarette!
I always worked around smokers, and I found that their smoke didn't bother me if I smoked too. I kept it up until my discharge, then dropped it and never looked back. Since I smoked only a 2 or 3 cigarettes a day, I guess that the hook was never set because I never missed them for a minute.
Now, if I were only that lucky with cards!
