I like the fight of steelhead! If they are hooked in a river get ready to run! The Ricky Sitka

I'd say pulling an old rusty bucket off the bottom. But, if you are talking about fish pound for pound, then it is Carp.

Iv'e never caught anything super big.
My vote is for the bonito on freshwater gear.
Some people that I know use heavy gear while fishing, I'm more of a sport fisherman than a bucket filler fisherman.
If and when I'll ever fish again. LOL.

Something I have always wondered what true fisherman think. Pound for Pound, what fish is the hardest fighting fish?

I have never caught a sword fish, but I have read many stories about guys fighting them for 24hrs+. I have caught marlin, yellowfin, bluefin and yellowtail. Out of those, would have to go for yellowtail. However, if you hook a truly big marlin that sounds, you are in for a battle. Speakin from experience there.

I would vote for Dogtooth tuna, which are even stronger /faster, then yellowfin tuna.

You may be right. I heard they're pure hell. I think somebody I know or knew got one in Baja. How big do they get?

Pacific coho and sockeye salmon are contenders, in my opinion,
as well as permit.

20lb salmon in a small river full sticks in Michigan. Just a rocket on a string.

I’m with you on that. I’ve caught yellowfin tuna, black fin tuna, wahoo and AJ’s and they all put up a great fight but not pound for pound like the jack cravelle puts up. First time I caught one I said to my buddy “I must have a 30 lb fish” the way my rod was bending. And it was a heavy duty rod and reel I was using. It turned out to be a 7 pound Jack.

I’ve seen musky literally fight to the death.

Easy to fight a musky to death. They have ultra high oxygen requirements and it doesn't take much. I have seen many fish with more endurance than a musky...northerns, lake trout, any salmon.

This is really a silly question for many reasons that have already been stated. Every fish is different and brings something special to the table. For me, it's the first 30 seconds of a muskie's fight and their tail walks...after that they play dead.

They play dead until you start to take the hooks out that’s when they get dangerous

I agree, I have been to the hospital once (just a few stitches), but a buddy of mine got his entire hand in the mouth of a big musky (46 stitches).

Do you agree with me on the nature of their fight - short but wild?
