I’m a beginner to fishing and live in Northern Michigan. I will be fishing for Walleye, Perch, Bass, and Pike. I’m looking for suggestions for open-faced reels?

Shimano has always done me well. Send pics of your catch!

Any of the Penn spinners in a 1000 to3000 range depending on price point.

The shimano Nasci in my opinion is the most robust and feature packed spinning reel you can get for $100
The 2500 size will handle everything you are targeting
The next step up in reels in shimano line up is the Ultegra for $150
However at this price point, all major manufacturers offer pretty good reels.
I Am now exclusively shimano have the ultegra And the Nasci and they are both fine reels

If $100 is out of reach, take a look at Pflueger. For the lower priced entry level reels, I have heard good things about them. At the entry level price point there are much better reels from other manufacturers than shimano.

You didn’t say anything about rods. Medium action fast or extra fast will handle everything you describe.
Berkley lightning rod is a dependable workhorse for a budget rod.
If you prefer a pre bundled package, bass pro offers decent combos in a variety of price ranges.

I suggest you don’t skimp on line. The best outfit with crap line is a crap outfit in my opinion
Monofilament you can’t go wrong with stren or trilene xl
Step up a level and fluorocarbon is a good choice. Bass pro offers several options in their brand
Step up again to braid and power pro is about standard price wise
If you decide braid route, mono or fluoro leaders are popular. If not. Do some research on braid knots. Braid doesn’t do too well unless a compatable knot is used.

I have a pflueger president 30 that I've been using for a while, at $60 it's a great reel and they do make a bigger version for the same price

Daiwa makes a revros combo that is excellent. Not sure it is easy to find though, post-pandemic. I have a 2500 combo and I am very happy with it. .

Just beginning to fish ? All the other answers are good.
BUT the big question is: How Much do you want to spend for both
a Rod & Reel ?
You can get a great starting combo for under $100.00.
You may spend more but for a new angler that will get
you starting out very well. Get the best line suited for your
combo; I favor braid but quality mono or fluorocarbon
is also suitable. Best of Luck in all your Fishing Adventures !

Thank you! Since I am just getting my feet wet, will consider the more economical reels to start. I already have the poles. We will have fun if nothing else!!!
