I was fishing today near Rio Vista Ca in the Delta couldn't catch any so I was just looking around with my fish finder on all of a sudden I see all these fish so I dropped anchor fixed up my salmon roe I figured if I catch something with this bait maybe Salmon or Sturgeon all of a sudden I started catching something one after another I didn't know what they were someone came riding by in there boat the usual catch anything I said yes but I don't what I showed the guy he told me it was a split tail. I to;d him thanks and he drove off. What is a split tail ? what are they good for ? and were did they come from?

I looked them up. Seems to be or not to be protected in certain parts of the lower California deltas. The smaller one are minnows to be used as bait. The bigger ones showed all the other fish that the water is liveable. (Like the canary in the cave). You may eat the bigger ones but the taste is bland.
