Fishing tips that we wouldn't believe?
What are your long-held, tried and true, but even possibly dubious fishing tips that we wouldn't believe?
I myself don’t have any, except that I love fishing dusk, after rain, before rain, and dawn. Also, one time when I was a kid I came upon a lady on the shore who had a whole stringer full of rainbow trout and said she sprayed her worms with WD-40, said trout love the taste.

Mine is more of a silly tradition. I was fishing with my great uncle and we weren’t catching anything all day.
He told me a story of when he was a kid he wasn’t catching any fish and everyone else was and they said to him “you must be spitting on your bait” and being a young kid he took offense and said no I haven’t! He pull his bait out the water and spit on it to spite them.... and caught a fish. So after hearing this story I reeled mine in and did the same. I caught a 32 pound catfish on that bait.
I’m not saying it works. But I’m not saying it doesn’t. Every time I do it I remember him and what turned into a good day of fishing.

I love that about fishing, how it connects us to our family and our memories.

I've heard the wd40 thing and would only use it on artificial lures.

The older WD-40 recipe had fish oil in it. I don't think the newer recipe does

Came here to post this. My grandpa and my uncle made me spray all of our lures before we trolled with them. I never questioned it, because it worked.

Sick of watching a motionless rod tip while surfcasting? Just do literally anything that will prevent you from watching the rod or occupies your hands and you'll get bites.

Well you see, that’s a good idea if you have a solid rod holder. My older brother was fishing a small pond as a child. He was probably 9 or 10. Every time he looked away from the pole he would get a bite but when he would touch the pole, the bite would stop. So he did what anyone logical would do, he turned completely around so the fish would get on the hook. When he turned back around his pole was being pulled in the water. Ended up losing it.

No hook. Just some light weight and a bobber. I sit in my chair and when someone comes around disturbing my peace and quiet I point at the bobber and say “SHHH. I’m fishing”. As an added bonus the fish don’t bother me either. Good old peace and quiet.

Granddaddy chewed Beach Nut chewing tobacco and wouldn't think about casting anything without giving it a dousing spit.
When the fish aren't biting, open a can of beer. The sound of the pop-top resonates through the boat and into the water, stimulating the fish. Once they start biting, everyone scrambles around, spilling the can of beer.
Open it close to me and I'm hooked!
Just backlash your reel after a long cast... you're sure to get a fish on!
get my lunch sandwhich outta the bag and when I take that first bite, BLAMMO, fish taking my bait and when I drop the sammich and get to the pole, he spits the bait out and laughs at me. I swear to god!
