Thanks, all of you for your thoughts, ideas, and concerns. I think the general consencies of the group that replied, is that they are fine with the high school and college players not so, with the pros. And very understandable so. What I do not understand is that, a high school player plays for his high school and is very proud to be able to represent it. The same is true for a college player. The high school player is not payed, the college player is most likely on a scholarship. but for the scholarship to be effective, he must preform and behave himself. If not, the scholarship is gone. So, why is it that the pros, who receive humongous amounts of money, can do whatever the he!! they want and they do not have to answer to anyone. It seems to me that everyone should have to answer to someone, even the President of the U.S. If a player wants to drop to a knee during the Anthem, that's fine, he can watch the game on TV from the locker room. Plus, he would be fined 1/16th of his salary. But, I'm sure that if a coach would do that in the NFL, he would be fired, so, what is the answer.

One point only to make on all of this. Am I the only one to remember the Black Panthers raising their fists in "Their Salute" in the Olympics? Now I see "Protesters" doing it also.
Now Protesting is OK, Rioting is not. Screaming at people is not. Throwing things at police or other's is not.
They use to shoot rioters, white, black, yellow, or red, didn't matter.
That's my rant, Sorry.

Amen brother

We have had 4 weeks of high school football here. The SEC starts their games Sept. 26. I see the Big Ten may start football Oct. 17. As a guy who wrote sports for 10 years, I always enjoyed covering the high school and college kids more than the pros.

We live in a country where symbolism takes the precedent over substance. The symbolic protest, no matter how it's done, is easier to do than making any changes of substance. Initially, the NFL took a tougher line against kneeling during the anthem. Now they have softened their stance. Why? The players will do it anyway and despite millionaire owners, the players are the game.

I don't agree with political stands celebrities take but I watch their movies and TV shows. I may not agree with NFL players, but I watch their games for entertainment. Do I think they are paid too much? I think they are paid what they can get. Just like you would take more money for a job you do or used to do.

I'd prefer they used their position as pro players to make some real change if they feel it's needed. They could use their celebrity status to do it. Very few will. I'll still watch.

Life goes on. The world will continue. People will do what people do. Be happy you have a choice to watch or not.

Not on my TV.. Total disrespect! Those that choose just not to watch the pregame or half time just so they dont have to see it, are still supporting them with blinders on....

I agree with most of what has been said. We don't care about the opinions or political views of overpaid athletes. Shut up and play ball!

I quit watching sports several years ago. There are better things to do with my time. There is too much BS involved for me. There’s too much individual, look at me, demonstrating after plays. They are playing a team sport and don’t need to grandstand and show off for the camera’s just because they made a tackle, or caught a pass. Good sportsmanship went out the window years ago. The roughing penalties after the whistle are stupid and totally uncalled for. Now, they’re disrespecting the Flag that people gave their life for and disrespecting the American people. If I were Vince Lombardi’s family, I would have them remove his name from the Super Bowl trophy. He never would have put up with the crap I see going on in the game today. I can’t stand seeing stupid fans supporting those overpaid, self promoting a-holes, like they’re something special.

Is 2020 going to be the year Football died. In MN. we have no highschool football this Fall. It will be played this Spring, hopefully. Caledonia currently has the NATION'S longest active winning streak at 68. We have won the last 5 State Championships. Many, many college football teams are not playing this Fall. The NFL is playing without fans in the stadium to begain with anyway, and the players disrespect for the flag and this Nation has Pi$$ed a lot of fans off, and they say that they are not going to watch it. What are your thoughts on this mess?

I watched the games because of the sport, but when each pro sport turned political, I stopped watching all pro sports with the first kneel. To watch just the game and not the Pre game or half time is still rewarding the players with eventually more salary. And if those millionaires want equity, the distribute their wealth to the poor to make all more equal, go ahead I am not stopping you.

Just effin' amazing how many of you STILL think the players are dissing the flag , the anthem, and the military.... IT AIN'T THAT.
Get properly informed or quit bitchin'.
And I will repeat from yesterday's post (see Spirit's "Cowboys")......if this is your deterrent from watching..... you are certainly "fair-weather fans", not "loyal ones", aren't you ? Bet you quit watching a team once it's determined they ain't going to the playoffs, too.....huh ?

"Ain't gonna learn, what you don't want to know".... an apropos Grateful Dead lyric.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, I was always taught that if you didn't stand up straight and put your hand over your heart you aren't giving the flag and the troops who died proper repect, I am 110% for their ability to express their opinions, Just not during the National Anthem, they Play it as a time to Respect the Military and the Fallen, NOT as a time to protest. But everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

And I dont know how you can accuse me of being a fairweather fan, I'm a Vols Fan dang it, Look at their last few seasons...
