I'm planning on catching some fish to eat but I'm wondering how should I store the fillets on the way home? I was thinking of using a cool box with ice packs but I'd appreciate any other ideas. Thanks.

Dry ice is useful for longer trips but it will freeze and you have to be careful of ventilation as it can suffocate.

Cooler. Beer comes out, fish goes in. Perfect system.

A second cooler- one for the fish and one for the beer.

Westcoaster has it correct. You should keep the filets separate. Just Sayin...RJS

Dry Ice In Good storage Cooler... https://www.dryicedelivered.com/products-4/Dry-Ice

Put 4 fish fillets into a "ZIP_LOCK FREEZER BAG" and fill with water until almost full making sure that all of the fillets are completely covered so as not to receive any freezer burn. If done correctly you can keep them in a refrigerator for a year and they will taste like that day that you caught them. Just make sure that they don't become unfrozen in the mean time...

How far are you going? I use lots of crushed ice on short trips, a day or two, on long trips it’s dry ice for me.

I take a cooler with 1/2 gallon frozen water jugs, leaving the fish in the lake on a stringer until I leave the area and put the fish in a plastic bag on top of the water jugs. Works for me.

Freeze the fillets in a ziplock freezer bag with just enough water to cover them. Freeze them if possible. Than when you are ready to head home pack them in a good ice chest like a yeti and fill with ice. Regular ice is fine. They will keep hard frozen for several days that way as long as you don’t keep opening the chest to “check” .

I fill a cooler with ice, and leave it in my truck. Then when we reload the boat we put the ice in the lid then the fish in the cold ice water that's from the ice melting. Then pour remainder of ice over fish. They will keep for at least 4-6 hrs.

That’s good to get home but if you have a three day ride home you need a little more.
