Hey guys, just got a new Lew's baitcaster and am wondering how you guys feel about line type.
This isn't my first baitcaster (it's actually my third), and I've always used mono. Casts on my Curado were never super impressive with the mono. I restrung it once and that helped me reduce backlashes, but now I've upgraded to a new reel I'm wondering if I should go with braid for the lighter line and better casting folks tend to report.
I mostly fish from the kayak, in a pretty slow river (the Colorado east of Bastrop), and prefer to throw jerkbaits and chatter baits with my baitcaster. I also carry a spinning rod for soft plastics and when I get tired of de-birdsnesting my baitcaster.
We're heading out for a 2 nighter this weekend, so I need to prep all my gear this week.
So, what do you guys think? Given the above, would you load up 15lb braid or 8-12lb mono? If you go with braid, do you add a mono leader for your treble hook lures?
Thanks in advance for the advice!

If you are using a Shimano Curado & you're regularly birdnesting as you implicate there is something wrong. With proper spool tension & practiced thumb control you should seldom birdnest. Have someone you know uses baitcasters with no problems to cast your reel using the same weight lure or bait you use. If your reel is clean & properly lubed there are several causes of a professional overwind ( backlash). Spool tension is #1. Readjust every time you change lures. Are you casting into the wind? Are your lures or bait too light. Do you use a very stiff rod rated at heavy action with 8 or 10 lb test line? There are other causes but these are very common. A Curado is an expensive reel & very reliable. Find out what's wrong.
