Hi everyone, I’m looking to purchase a bait casting rod for saltwater. I am looking for a rod that can handle good sized redfish, but also can take smaller speckled trout. I have a rod ugly stik that is so stiff I have a hard time throwing artificial lures. Does anybody have any baitcasting rods that is flexible enough to throw lighter artificial lures, but can also throw heavier lures as well?

Check out Tsunami rods. They make some nice rods that will work well in the surf. If you want to move up a bit both Lamiglas and St Croix make really nice surf rods. It's kind of hard for me to recommend soecific modsls since I build my own.

Hoss: I should think you could go to any tackle shop or WalMart, Bass Pro Shop and simply pick up a rod and flex it in your hand and determine whether you thought it to be flexible enough, compared to what you already have. Just Sayin...RJS

Banks fishing Life: I would follow the rule, if there is one, the cheapest rod that will fill all your needs. You did not take the shop owners to raise. Your goal is a good rod that will do the job at the lowest cost. Just Sayin...RJS

Depends, are you surf fishing or inshore fishing? That will make quite a difference in your Rod's ability to deliver.

From my experience when living in N.O. ordinary bass tackle will work just fine. There is salt or brackish water in every direction in N.O. and just take your pick, Lake Pontchartrain, the Rigolets, down the Big Muddy, the swamps. Every single direction of the compass there is good salt water fishing but it doesn't take special heavy duty equipment, just regular bass tackle. Just Sayin...RJS
