Dd,
They stay on great but I have had no luck with them.

That doesn't mean not to try them they might work where you are.

I would slice them so they do not fill the hook up.

If you know someone who works in the meat department of a store and can sell you the old shrimp they are gonna throw away that is another great catfish bait.

I have a buddy that pays through the nose for shrimp when the gar are spawning at the lake of the ozarks in Mo.

He fishes with microlight rigs with a large line capacity reel 6or8 # test line no weight just lets the shrimp fall like the eggs from the gar from a boat and that is some fantastic action.

I have been fishing for catfish for over 50 years used every kind of bait you could imagine. What you have to keep in mind is what species of cat are you pursuing. If you are fishing for a flathead then the use of live perch, bluegill, or minnows. For channel catfish or blues bar none the best bait that will stay on the hook is a cut bait. Sucker meat is exception but sometimes hard to get, second best in my opinion is carp meat you can also use cut up creek chubs. I have caught a lot of catfish with crawdads but usually they are smaller fish. If you can catch a few frogs I can almost guarantee you a large 5# and up depending on the size of frog 10-15# is not uncommon. I was born in Kansas but lived most of my life in Wyoming there are few flatheads here but have caught 20# in the Tongue river that flows into the Yellowstone which is in Montana my friends and I have caught as much as 150# of catfish in a 2-3 day period in the spring of the when the fish are spawning with the above mentioned baits. Liver works good but is hard to keep on a hook without a nylon or similar to make a nice bag out of. Hope this helps would love to hear how it works fore you.

My cousin fishes at kaw pointe and up in the kaw he says the best bait for the big ones is asain carp. He has hooked several that he has never seen but they have pulled his small boat around if he can get his anchor up fast enough.

Im trying to fish a low fishing pressure lake in So. Cal. And this year I havent been doing real great at fishing( I usually go on Overnight boats targeting gamefish in the morning and rockfish, lingcod, sheephead, & whitefish)! But even on those trips I havent done great! I was planing on fishing with bonita, & mackerel! With a sliding weight rig on 1 line and fly line on the other with a huge chunk of bonita! Trying unscented on 1 the other a cheese stink bait! Bang garlic and if I can kickin catfish oil! Am I doing anything wrong?

I was told a long, long, time ago, that 90 percent of the fish live in 10 percent of the water.
I am sure that's not exactly true, but I am reminded often that it's sometimes not that far off.
You have to fish where the fish are to catch em. Look for structure of any kind.
Edges of areas that get shollow or deep quickly. Placers that have short access to both deep and shollow water, and food.
I think fishing rivers can help a person know what to look for easier. Big open water requires good sonar use or years of experience finding spots or both sometimes.

Here in Texas on the gulf coast I use finger mullet or peeled shrimp, but they love crawdads as well.
