Jaime56 Man! I've been fishing for 2 months and nothing. I've tried to keep to things to a minimum in cost but I've lost so many rigs, bait , line with all the tangles thank god no more of those. Ok ok I can't cast to save my life it's getting better but I just don't know what I doing wrong. I didn't expect the learning curve to so much. Fishing for bass have the right size tackle, I in even tried drop shot with #8 misquote hook (I looks easy right?) no problem lost four rigs. 6 this morning went to incredible pond 2 pound bass blowing up all around me, I never felt so good that incredible feeling of catching your first fish. I never caught. 2 Texas rig gone. I'm beat I never been so bummed. A beginner looking for some help.

Sounds like you're using a bait caster. Get yourself a spinning reel or a good closed faced reel. Take the bait caster into the back yard and practice. With a bait caster or other open face reels you need to learn to use your thumb to control the lure so you don't get rats nests. It takes practice but in between get a spinning or closed face reel. I sympathize with you. I am retired in Sarasota FL, and I started fishing about 3 weeks ago (spinning reel). The first time out on the ICW was a disaster, but I watched every YouTube video I could, to learn the lingo, the lures, how to cast and how to fish. There is so much valuable info there and here on this forum.

I caught my one and only fish (a bass) about 10 minutes after I moved to a freshwater lake. Then I moved to a local pond that had a baby gator watching every move I made. He even would swim out to every cast and follow me every where I moved to. Of course, I hooked him and decided that was enough for that pond

Problem is that it’s 95 degrees and sun beating down all day here, so it makes for lousy fishing conditions. Once you’ve got all the techniques down pat, talk to the local bait shop or find out where the best local fishing spots are.

I am still keenly interested and expect to learn and do better each week.

Hope that motivates you

Not sure what baits you are using. But if the bass are blowing up around you maybe you need to use baits that will stay closer to the surface. Say like a Tiny Torpedo, spinner bait, swim minnow or crank bait. There are many more like these out there. O, watch YouTube.

Sounds to me like you might be trying too hard. Relax. In your downtime maybe go somewhere where there is a little room and practice your casting. It is called fishing not catching. Watch a you tube video or two. Catch the t.v. Fishing shows, and practice. RELAX man it will come. Best of luck. Good fishing.

Cheap line? Also, the line should be tight on the reel spool and also leave a 1/4 inch of space around the spool edge. After several casts put a lot of tention on the line during the next retrieve to re-tighten the line on the spool. If you are losing a lot of rigs, increase the speed of your retrive--apparently you are hanging up on the bottom.

In the wisdom of, Bill Dance, the reason women and children can catch fish is because they don’t know what they are doing. Men put far too much thought into it.
