Gets your marlin in the boat. Often takes two.
We always had 2 on board but used just one. Hit it in the right spot and immobilizes

When we had the marlin or shark beside the boat, if we were keeping it would use the gaff near the dorsal on a marlin and in the mouth if it was a shark. With the flyer, removing the poll made it easier to control the fish

Yw, we had 10 years of game fishing and the last 4 were our best, in 2 years we hooked over 30 marlin and several sharks. Except for 3 trophy marlin, the rest were tag and release
That's a flying gaff Mike, used for sharking and tuna fishing. The hook is attached to a rope, cleated off to the boat. It's held to the handle by a piece of heavy fishing line. When you stick the fish, the line breaks, and the hook stays in the fish. Works kinda like a harpoon dart.
You all need to watch wicked tuna...
You will see it used on every fish
It might be my mother in laws dental pick though
Just tried using mine on a large 'needle nose gar'. This one happened to hit a diver bait. I thought I was snagged, till it started taking out drag. 10lb test with a 35-40lb fish. I got it to the boat three times, and he was done, I got the gaff out, and first time, didn't stick, so again, nope, again, and the gaff slid up the nose and took my lure out of his mouth. I never needed one, and now I need to learn how to use something so simple. Next time there is going to be a bang, and the gaff will fit in the hole.

You ain’t never gone up against a big shark. That’s where a bang stick comes in handy. 10x more effective than some puny 9 mm.
