I have never seen a hook like that before. You do come up with a lot of puzzlers for me Mike. The scramble is Palomar. Love the scrambles. 😃👍

Looks like a gaff hook for dealing with monster fish you will not release. Not sure about the regulations concerning the barb, but recommend you check your local rules about them. Palomar is a great knot for certain presentations.

It's a gaff Mike, not sure about the legality of the barb, but I would say that it isn't legal. I have never seen one with a barb until now. You are going to poke a hole in a perfectly good fish, not a good thing to do. Thanks, Mike.

Flying gaff, the head is tied to a line that attached to the boat.

I sometimes use a barbless one on musky I hook them in the mouth and it doesn’t kill them.
