Be very carful land not break your rod and then still have to break your line anyway. I usually take hold of my line outside the rod's length, then wrap it around some handle or stick so I have leverage enough to break the line.Just Sayin...RJS
We fish offshore in the Florida Keys, most of the lines are from 20 to 50lb test we just have to cut it
For really stubborn snags that refuse to break, I wrap the line around something to act as a handle (cigarette lighter) wrap the line around it a number of times and begin a steady pull.
