I think the copperhead thing is just Delaware . There is a nest along the Bradywine river where my wife works and DNR told them about it and told them they were protected. When I lived in northern Jersey we would see them up in the mountains, but with all the development since I left i don't know how many are left. City folks don't comprehend snake too well.

Yep, I’m with you, Coon. Endangered or not, being near me will make their head a lot heavier with all the shot it’ll have to carry around in it. .22 shot works good too and it ain’t so loud.

I have 4 neighbors & they're not disturbed by my shooting. Well, 1 neighbor is new but he's a soon to retire US Army Sergeant Major so he should be OK.1 neighbor is a doctor & her husband shoots a lot also. No one around here is an import from California or New York. We're all Okie's. Before I retired we lived in Western Oklahoma & rattlesnakes were everywhere. We even had the pygmy rattler. Most of them only get about 18 inches long but they have a nasty attitude & can kill you as dead as a 6ft diamondback. Several years ago I was sneaking along the side of a hill on the Rosebud reservation in South Dakota trying to get the drop on some prairie dogs. A noise got my attention & I looked down to see that I stood with 1 foot on each side of a coiled rattler. I had enough sense to not move. I had a colt 45 cowboy pistol loaded with shot shells on my hip. I had my varmint rifle in my left hand, luckily..I slowly drew the 45 & pointed it down & hoped I didn't get too much lead shot in my foot. It was a bad day for that snake. I took him out & didn't get a pellet in my feet. He had only 8 rattles.

California or New York? What does that mean? I reckon you've never spent a weekend in the woods in California. Can't speak for New York but whenever I go fishin I'm carrying and it's perfectly legal as long as it's open.

I think if you have a permit in New York you can carry a single shot sling shot but it can't be loaded!😁

A few more , some I
never knew of.

The rest of the snakes in California don’t rattle, they campaign.

Glad they are there and I am here. I have learned to deal with harmless ones, but I don't want to lumber into one, especially as I age, I am not as observant. Having said that I would like to have some rattle snake skins to use to decorate a fishing rod. Never have done that before.

Hmm decorate a fishing rod with a snake skin. I like it. I decorated a holster with a bass skin, it was awesome!

Instead of a butt wrap in front of the fore grip, they take a section of skin and fit it so it just wraps around and butts up to itself. they do all sorts of different snakes like Diamond Back, Cobra and others for example for the different patterns.

I tanned one years ago. I was told by a taxidermist to clean all the meat off it and rub it with borax.
