Well Preacher, it seems like you have set yourself up like a golf ball on a tee...
But, I will leave the stripper comment for others... 😉
As for using sardines for stripers , I would recommend trolling them (if you’re able) at 1.4-1.8mph at their current depth, or just above them using 30# test, adequate weight to keep them down and a treble hook, or a single hook sized properly for the bait.
What type of boat? Do you have a depth finder?

Hey Preacher. We use a double hook set up for bait fishin. The hooks are only tied bout 4 or 5 inches apart.
The leader is bout 2 1/2 long and then enough weight to hold it on the bottom.
When we are trollin the river we either use a Rebel Fastrack lure about 5 or 6 inches long or a 1oz. Rattle Trap. We troll at 5 mph which is a pretty fast troll. Be sure to have your drag set loose enough for the fish to take line out when they hit. Otherwise something is gonna break, or they just pull off. One or the other.
