This Mississippi catfish fell short of the state record (130#) at 112 pounds, but it still brought a smile to one fisherman's face! Woooheee!

That will be one greasey catfish. I think that the bigger they get the greaseier they become.

The newspaper report stated that he released it. Apparently the scale he had went up to "only" 112 pounds! From the story, he is experienced at fishing for catfish.

Back years ago when I lived in Nebraska, I remember meeting fishermen who were geared up to fish for large catfish in the Missouri River. They were using salt water, heavy duty equipment which to my eyes looked like a crane and boom truck. For bait I think they said they used bluegill either live or cut up. They seemed to be guys really dedicated to their sport.

All kinds of stories came out of the swamps, when they were building the I-10 overpass thru the swamp. Divers would go down and guide the pillars into place, never seeing them, or the other diver. One story is when one of the divers lost his partner. He surfaced and found him sitting in the boat all white faced. He told the other diver, something swallowed him whole, and then spit him out. Last time they went down!!

Bet he was glad he had not showered that morning - wouldn’t have done him any good at that point!
