For overall best deals, Walmart? One of the big online stores? Let me know, it’s easy to spend hundreds might as well save a few bucks each time I buy something.

My top place for cheap gear is usually the small little corner tackle stores. Mine have cheap sections. There’s a 99c soft plastic bin that I pick through all the time

Yeah I usually go to a family owned tackle store by me but I’ve found certain types of products they have marked up way high. Mostly cheap for lures and plastic, plus I’m supporting the small business

Shop around! What is not to like about shopping around for fishing gear! Lately I have been using Academy, they had a series of $20 off $75 coupons that were suppose to be good through August 2nd but they stopped working, I have a feeling people were using them at a pretty rapid pace. I also have resorted to ordering direct form manufactures this season, Matrix Shad have been pretty much unobtainable at the retail level so I ordered direct.

Look to see who is offering discounts or having sales. I buy from 5-6 places. Sometimes it is Dicks, other times Dunhams or an online retailer. Walmart has little to choose from where I live.

Dick's here where I live stopped carrying fishing supplies when they stopped carrying fire arms. I guess they don't like that type of clientelele. One more good reason not to shop there at all.

Scour online options. I found in Alabama a place called Tackle this Shoot that. No complaints.

Seems that fishing tackle selling is one of the few businesses left that can still hold the line on 'manufacturers suggested retail price'. Many of you younger folks probably have never heard that expression before.

FYI a $250 major manufacturer's reel, say a 3000 Model has more than a $100 markup. I realize this is a capitalist society and it's caveat emptor but for a small store that doesn't even stock what you want but has to order it that is a bit of an overkill IMO. The small store literally has no inventory cost unlike the big box stores.

When a store says they have competitive prices they aren't talking about you getting a deal, they are saying we sell for the same price as the other box stores or big online places.

That's a shame !!! The Walmart in Raytown has live green worms, the fish just love them.

I agree about Wal-Mart at the retail level, even if they carry what you want, they sell out and don't restock. That being said, check out their prices online. I've found many times they beat the big online houses, and many items ship from small tackle shops in the middle of the country. So you're helping them out also.

ABSOLUTELY FEEL THE SAME ABOUT DICKS. Never will go there again if they wanted to give me items for free.

I don't care if they don't want to handle guns, that's their business. But fishing supplies? Do you know how many people fish as opposed to play baseball or tennis?

I'm with you Spirit. Dick's (and Chick's) isn't a sporting goods store, it's a clothing store. Imagine calling yourself a sporting goods store and not include fishing and hunting. Waste of space.

Good Morning,
I have to agree with Walmart, but the shelves here have been bare lately.
Couldn't find barrel swivels, weights, hook size's we needed not even
leader line.
