I just use my 7' light rod and no problem reeling in some 20" flounder. I prefer 10 or 12 lb braid with a 2' fluro leader.

Depending where you are going if in NC check to see if the location is legal to keep. In this part of NC not legal until 8/18 thru 9/30.

If I'm fishing from a boat I like to use a 5 or 6 foot spinning rig. Makes it easy to flip the bait out a bit to aid the drift. If I'm on the beach I use a 10 footer to cast and jig in.

North Carolina has had a ban on taking Flounder/Fluke since last fall.

Hi Mr. Doug,
I don't think so, my friend Beth caught a couple a few weeks ago.
She was using 7.5' med/heavy that we bought for 40.00 a piece
for, rod and reel.

I think it's more of a personal preference.
I read somewhere about using a 2000 or 3000 series some use.

I’m a big fluker. I use my largemouth baitcating rod for boats. It allows easy offlining with light tackle and from shore I use anything I have handy.
Fluke is my favorite. :-)
