Can’t spool my baitcaster no matter I do.

Hey guys, so I bought a baitcaster a couple years ago that I haven’t touched, but I decided that I wanted to give it a go recently. Yesterday I spent hours trying to spool the line around the reel and I just couldn’t do it no matter what. The only thing I’m having trouble with is the knot. I’ve watched countless amounts of videos on how to tie a bunch of different kinds of knots, but I just can’t do any of them. When I actually do succeed in just doing one overhand knot, I can never tie it around the reel tightly that it will just stay, and it always becomes lose preventing me from reeling any line in. I honestly don’t know what to do at this point guys. I planned on going fishing today, but I guess not.

Use an arbor knot https://www.animatedknots.com/arbor-knot its a very simple knot... basically an overhand knot tied around the mainline with another overhand knot tied on the tag end to keep it from slipping through.
If you find this still slips around the spool when you start reeling line on, put a piece of electrical tape over it to keep it in place. This is what I do with braided line.

I used to use the tape that would secure the tag end of line out of the spool it came off of. I don’t think they use that tape any longer but it always worked fine to keep it tight enough to the reel to get it started. Are you trying to tie an arbor knot ? https://www.animatedknots.com/arbor-knot

One piece of electrical tape as backing and an Arbor knot. Have someone hold the spool of line if you don't have a spool holder. Good luck and let everyone know how it goes!

I think I got the knot down now, but now when I reel the line in, it looks tangled and uneven.

Are you using braid? If so you need either a monofilament backer or you need to tape the braid to the spool.

Simple fix. Tie an overhand knot in the very end of the line. Then tie the line around the reel left over right right over left. When you pull it tight the knot in the end will cinch up tight. I do all mine this way. Good luck.

I always tie the knot whichever you choose then for three or four turns off the handle I'll leave the line lose enough to spool on the reel and then start tightening up tension on line. When it catches it's lose but not to lose for only less than an inche. I've only had a fish pull all the line of a reel once and at that point I wasn't gonna turn it anyway so I just let it and about 200 yards of line go without worrying to much about it.

after you tie your knot put a drop of super glue on your knot and spool just dont get carzy with the glue
