What is the best way to catch Kokanee
Grampa
Loc: S. Coast Oregon USA
Ok this worked 40 yrs ago... 1st you call the Oakridge tackle shop and ask the 900 yr old guy “ are the Kokanee schooling?” If he says yes you go to the West End Campground of Odell... then take your boat out in front of the ramp in 80’ of water and find a ball of fish... then get right on top of them and back off 15’-20’ and Quietly drop an anchor then row over the top and go 15’-20’ feet and Quietly drop your 2nd anchor.... then position yourself right on top of the ball of fish...now and most importantly hook on the bottom and weight 2’-3’ up.... now drop your gear in water until the weight is at surface and count the reel turns to get your hook at the surface....because you want to fish 1”-12” off the bottom... we used a small wobbler with a piece of corn... a piece of worm and a piece of shrimp on the hook...Fish from 1”-12” off the bottom and wait.... the bite is very light... when you feel it’s time jerk the rod up and reel at the same time...we KILLED them doing this... the fish averaged 12”16” and were excellent eating...
