I have never used that system but am very interested to know about it. I have a boat and live on a Lake / River as well. I bought a Kayak last fall and man it’s a great platform to fish off of . I can get into areas I could not in a bass boat. I have caught so many bass that I could not access by boat or shore. Let me know what you learn. I am still learning the process as well. There are some really good kayaks fishing videos on google.

Hey Rick 530. I joined the Kayak world myself this past January and fishing has been indescribably much better than my 14' john boat ever was. I opted not to get the anchor trolley system because a 5 pound weight dropped from either side serves my purpose with a 10' line. In the river and coves works great. If I want to face my target from either side just drop the weight accordingly. Enjoy this new experience.

I have a friend that is a professional guide on several lakes throughout the motherlode of Northern California. He fishes from a Kayak as well. I'm know he would be happy to answer any questions you might have. See McTeam Guide Service in Stockton CA. Also on Facebook . His name is Doug McArthur.

Rick there are many commercial anchor systems on the market. Most of us make our own trolley systems. You need your kayak to be anchored from the bow or stern. For safety never anchor mid ship. This is based on fishing different locations and conditions. You need to stay with the current and wind flowing from bow to stern or vice versa. Never hitting your kayak broadside
To do this we use a system so we can stay seated in our boat and drop anchor off the side. Your system will be to form a full loop. With a contract point to attach your anchor. Start with a medal ring 2 to 3 inch in diameter. You need a single length of rope that will reach from the bow of your kayak to the stern and back to the bow. Then attach a small pulley at the bow and one pulley at the stern on the side of your kayak you plan to anchor from. Next tie one end of your rope to the ring run the other end through a pulley then run it through the second pulley then tie the rope to the ring you tied the rope to begin with
Now you should have a ring with both ends of your rope tied to it. Then the rope goes through one pulley then the other pulley. Now tie your anchor to the ring. When you want to drop anchor drop your anchor over the side with twice the line needed to reach bottom. If you are in 12 foot of water you need 24 foot of rope between the ring and your anchor. Extra line can be tied off in your boat. Now decide if you want to anchor from the bow or stern. Pull on the length of rope not tied to the ring the piece that just runs from one pulley to the other this will move the ring to the bow or stern. Now tie off the rope that runs through the pulleys so it can not move. You are now anchored. To pull up anchor untie rope pull rope till ring with anchor rope is back by you pull up anchor

For big fish fishing you want to attach a float to your
Anchor rope large enough to be seen from 50 yards away. Then install a snap ring on the end of your anchor rope now you would clip the anchor to the ring instead of tieing it. When a 60 pound Cobia hooks up you do not have to pull up the anchor just unclip it and chase you catch. When done paddle back pick up float and clip anchor back to ring. You are back on your spot were you have been chumming
Those big fish. Pops

Hey Rick, Amazon has that trolley system if you go that route for $ 45.00. Personally I like my weights on both sides as close to the stern as possible without having to turn around to retrieve them. But it all depends on where you are fishing with currents, depths and keeping your hand out of the water. Don't want to come up with a unwanted snake or gator.

That's funny sorry no crocodiles here in Northern California snakes yes rattlesnakes but they don't like water. I fish the Sacramento river from shore do ok it runs right by my house fast current been on a kayak twice in my life and I'm not really sure about this River that's why I was looking into an anchor system I just don't know how that stuff works. Thank you very much for your input I do appreciate it. Rick

Yep got an occasional gator here in NC and a shark or two have made its way into the Pamlico tributaries just to make it interesting. I purchased my kayak at the Great Outdoor Provision Co. You may look it up in your area or any seller of kayaks that they may have a kayak on display with the trolley system already installed just to see how it works. I had purchased the kit with the kayak, but never put it on because when I saw how my neighbor anchors that's good enough for me.

If you want to see something you should probably never try, go watch the kayakers fishing for Thresher sharks off the kelp in San Diego. My only rule for myself would be to cut the line!

Absolutely love kayak fishing the coastal marshes of North and South Carolina and have use the trolley anchor system on my Native Ultimate 12 for many years. Best advise is to have two trolleys, one on each side to deal with currents and wind. I don't anchor often since the red's keep moving, but when I do I like to have the ability to position myself in just the right spot.
