What kinda reel is this. Any times I should use one. What is a good line to spool it up with. Would it be a good reel to learn to fish with. Can you unscramble this before a bluegill eats it. RKTCEIC.

It's a Johnson Century. Looks like the 100B model, if I remember right. Great reel for it's day, but a light reel. Not really for bigger fish.

I still have a couple Johnson’s; Century and Citation. That’s what I learned to fish with, along with Zebcos. I used a Johnson up until I got a Zebco Bullet.

I had one, lost a good fish the first day I used it. No drag, sent back to mfg. they did nothing to it. Sent it back to me and I thru it away. Maybe that is one of the reasons why they don't make reels anymore!?

JOHNSON SABRE. Lost the biggest fish I ever hooked using one of those. I didn't know you had to let the handle go backwards in order to have any drag. The fish popped a 20# test line. Sounded like a rifle when it broke.

Edit: you're right. The Sabre had a star drag on the handle. As long as you held the handle forward you had no drag.

A classic Johnson reel! Should have info on left side. The old Heddon reel was lighter in color but a bit stronger with the drag set right.

Took me down memory lane, there! My Dad gave me a Roddy pole with a Johnson Century on it as a present when I finished the 8th grade.

I still have that reel!

Used that reel to catch many rock bass in the eastern upper peninsula of Michigan. Was stationed at the now closed Kincheloe AFB 25 miles SSE of Saulte Ste. Marie. Good reliable reel that was under $10 bucks in '64 in the Base Exchange.
