I've been fishing for a little while now, and have been using a $20 Walmart rod.

If the reason you are upgrading is you feel you are stressing the rod , get a ugly stik tiger elite, part number
USTE1025S691 .You are not likely to get anything fresh or inshore saltwater that you can't get in the boat or beach with that.plus 7 year guarantee. 80 bucks delivered to yer house !

I just bought 2 Ugly Stik Elite combos also. Got each one for $50 apiece from Rural King (but I had to pay shipping) They are advertised on alot of other sites for $70 apiece. I used to get free shipping from RK, but for some reason, that stopped. Hate to pay for shipping.

The "Tiger " elites are dif than a "elite" The tiger elites are really stout rods, made for BIG FISH. 10-50 pound mono,3/4-6 oz lures

I don't ever catch big fish so I like to use light rods. This was similiar to the cheap ultra-lite combo I've had a long time (which I still use) but wanted to get a little more expensive one.
Also got on reviews & ratings and found this outfit was recommended. So I think I made a good choice. The only thing is - they didn't give a lot of information on the outfit & I questioned them by e-mail & finally said it was 6 ft medium rod or 6 ft 6 in - not sure. I looked all over the internet and couldn't find a better buy but could have gotten free shipping. I kept putting off ordering from Rural King as they only offered the one size and could not offer free shipping. Finally, decided to buy it. It hasn't arrived yet. I don't understand why they quit their shipping offer. I think the shipping cost me $10.60 or $10.80. And of course tax added to that.
