Would I have luck just casting straight out into the river or is there certain things I should be looking for? Also what lures are most effective?

Hoss: people don't check, or didn't have any convenient way of checking if there were other places of the same name in early times. One way to keep towns from doubling up was the U.S. Post Office not allowing them, but for rivers and such, it wasn't the same.

Also, my great, great grandfather came from Scotland and the same name show up in South Carolina. Now, it's hard to know for sure which town he is referring to in his writing. Just Sayin...RJS

I fished about a 40 mi stretch of it,never that far down
Still say try a 1/4 oz chartreuse spinnerbait.
Those smallies are so much fun
Good luck man!!

I’m sure that would help with local issues, sadly I don’t live near the river, it’s my sisters college and I would love to catch my first smallie there

Thanks J_DeV, If the river is slow moving where you're going, try a wacky rigged Powerbait General,in green pumpkin. I've been having some success on Lake Zoar,(part of the Housatonic River)here in CT. Good Luck, smallies are awesome!
