Fellow Oregonian here.... not real happy seeing the sturgeon (that CANNOT BE KEPT at all) being held like that, since regulations state "must be released unharmed". Sturgeon fishing in Oregon these days, is merely satisfying your "man over nature" stance, since none can be harvested.
Happy you had a "fantastic day"..... quite SAD that it was at the expense of HARASSMENT OF BABIES.

All fish were released promptly after every picture was taken and sturgeon WAS open for retention for two day’s on the lower Willamette River.

Just checked the ODFW site. How typical of them.... 6/20 (last Saturday) & 6/27 (now yesterday !) open....but 44"-55" slot, not after 6pm & quite specific as to WHERE on the Willamette (starts at the edge of the "sturgeon nursery" ?) and a slice of the Multnomah channel....how ridiculous !
And folks ask me why I don't even bother with the "Columbia drainage" since 2012. It's just like a "bad" girlfriend or wife ..... You memorize the rules, stringently adhere to them .....then find out they changed while you slept last night ! Who needs that $#*t ?

Wow! "HARASSMENT OF BABIES"... REALLY? I've never heard anyone refer to fishing as harassment. Surely that was a joke???

Absolutely NOT a joke.
If you consider that the "slot" for retention during the 1-day (6/20 & 6/27) "openings" is 44"-55" and the ancient creatures regularly grow up to 8'-10'.....yeah... the pics above ARE......BABIES.

PS - I have 2"x 8" bumper stickers available that read....
"Catch and Release ONLY is.......
RATIONALIZED WILDLIFE HARASSMENT"

PM me, I'll send you one for free.

You are certainly welcome to NOT embrace that reality, but it remains so, regardless. I never target a fish I can't, or have no desire to, put on a plate and consume. To others, fishing is sport only and I fully understand the "tug is the drug" impetus to go fishing. I tend to be a bit more pragmatic about my outings and not particularly lenient to those who target species that only satisfy the ego....Marlin is a perfect example, as were the baby sturgeon.
Not a hater, but certainly no cheerleader, either. Do your thing, as long as it's legal... I'll do mine.

"NEW" ??? LOL..... Not really, was taught that philosophy by my great uncle, who also taught me fly fishing in the Ozarks,1964 or so. He was born in 1876, died in '66, just shy of 90.

You totally missed the point, Fix.
Hope you can keep up with all the “takers” for those bumper stickers.
Lucky for you, you don’t have to sell them to make a livin’.

I'm going out to catch some food, tomorrow but I'll throw back all the "babies" in your honor, and so they can grow up to be caught again! It's called fishing! FYI I have never fished for or caught a sturgeon. But I did my best trying to avoid getting killed by them while fishing in the Suwanee River. I witnessed 6 to 8 footers jumping out of the water. Look it up....people have been killed by them. Knocked unconscious from their boats. Or just killed outright. fwiw.

totally agree with you. ALL billfish are are illegal to keep except swords. we used to catch 250, 300# swords now (because of the longliners) the average "large sword is 80#. we stopped fishing billfish tournaments 5 years ago.Now its stripers and blues C&R!
