I've fished my entire 30 years on this planet, and in the last 11 years I haven't caught a single one. Help.
So this is actually true... I live in Montana and we generally are fishing for trout in a lake. When I was a kid I would catch fish quite often, but I can't remember catching a fish since the time I was around 19. This isn't a joke, I fish quite a bit because I love to just be outdoors and on or around water, and that's all I chalk up fishing up to for me the past few days. When I say I'm going fishing, all that means in my mind is I'm going to sit in my boat and enjoy the sunshine and put a string in the water for no reason. I've tried every kind of bait, every kind of hook, and advice from hundreds of people who claim to be a expert. Nothing. Trolling, casting, doesn't matter... The fish exist, last weekend I was fishing from shore near a kid who I watched pull 5 or so fish from the lake in about a hour... At one point I yelled over and asked what he was using, he said just a worm on a hook... Me too kid, me too. True story, me and my wife were fishing one day at the river, she had caught a few fish, me nothing... At the end of the night she threw her empty hook in the water to clean it off, and cought another fish.
It has me confused and I would like to end this cycle this year and somehow catch a fish... Maybe someone on here can teach me something I haven't heard before.

The answer is simple. Your cursed. You've been reduced to a worm drowner/bather

That's a long slump brother. A fresh set of eyes and a new stretch of water can be good mojo. My old man went through a slump like that after my brother and I grew up. We moved out, went to college, and got jobs. He didn't fish as often and lost his touch but we all went out a few summers ago to a new (to us) section of river and put the hammer down on some trout. He's been back at it since. Good luck!

You're scared, the fish know it too.
Go to your local trout farm, the kinda place you take a 5yo to catch a fish in 39 seconds... Catch a fish. Enjoy the moment, get your confidence back

Pick one thing, and fish with only that one thing. Don't waste time changing lures or baits. Pick one thing and use it til you get one. Get out of the slump.

Time to go shopping at your local store’s meat and seafood department lol

You must be using the wrong equipment for the fish that are available where you are fishing. Ask at a local bait and tackle shop what is the best bait and rig for where you are fishing. Drop your line size by half to start with.

Hook up with a guide and see if he can find what you're doing wrong

That’s a really great idea Flytier.

Granddaddy would say "Your just not holding your mouth right", or repeat after me "fishy, fishy, in the brook, come and bite my little hook" That one has worked more than once for me. You can holler "Go Noles!!!", but never even whisper "go gators" that works for sure, just ask my grandsons. "Hunker down dogs" seems to be neutral though.

Have you tried sitting on just one cheek , or standing on only one leg? Just wondering - maybe has nothing to do for catching fish. 😀Wish you the best in getting the 🦨 skunk off. Have someone else bait your hook/rig you lure and dont touch it before going into the water. That has worked for others.

I was going to suggest disposal gloves as some people have a scent that fish don’t like.
