Everyone always gripes at me because I hang up a lot. I do. My theory is if you're not hanging up you're not putting bait, or lure, where the fish are. I'll work hard to retrieve my lures & I bought that expandable to 15 ft lure retriever from flambeau that works wonderful plus the weighted retriever on a cord. I do enjoy salvaging a lure lost by another fisherman.

Would you mind sending me back my lures πŸ˜€πŸ˜€πŸ˜€πŸ˜€? Gotta love it.

Fishing and golf have one thing in common. One of the costs of the sport is losing lures and losing golf balls.

Exactly, the fish hang out where the lures hang up. I have a canoe on standby when fishing from the dock. It has paid for itself in retrieving lures.
Walmart and Academy Sports have one and two dollar lures that catch fish and don’t sting so bad when you catch a tree bass.

Well hoss: what other payback or amusement do fish ever get? It might be their trophy wall and bragging rights to show younger fish all the various lures Dad has managed to wrap around a stump! Just Sayin...RJS

Leave it to a coon to tie a weighted retriever on a 15’ rope to go down and get the lure he lost. Not only is he a bad angler but drowns a good bird dog in the process. You my friend should be ashamed and take up needle point. Even you should be able to get that hook out!!!

Never lose a lure again by using live bait, or frozen you caught yerself on a sabiki rig.Even squiding at night is fun with the kids.Anyone can get a few minows at the dock with a dip or cast net. Dig a few worms, catch a few grasshoppers, flip over a rock get a crawfish, catch a frog. When people fish, there's usually water somewhere close with bait and fish in it. :)

Oh but the thrill of the smash on a top water or the explosion from a good buzz hit is hard to beat.

Being me is a full time job. I'm not prone to casting lures into overhead trees or treetops but if that tree is laying in the water I will drag a lure all around it. I'm famous for dropping a minnow or worm tipped jig over into that tree or brush pile. I usually use snag free jigs & hooks but even that is no guarantee that some fish won't grab my offering & wrap it around a limb & tie it off. There's about a 1 mile section of the Illinois river near me that has old cars placed along the inside banks to help prevent erosion. The catfishing is excellent along that stretch of river. Trout fishing is good along there also. Live bait like small bluegill are my bait of choice there as some big flatheads hang out along there. I can't always land the fish after a good fight as a
big flathead will go in one of those old cars & roll the window up which ends the fight. Fish wins everytime.

Love your dilemma there coon. Slide right into one of them cars and gather up lures might even have a fish or two still living on a lure waiting to be taken homeπŸ’ͺ

I suspect that a lot of lures are lost in or near the banks of lakes and streams. Thus, when the water of the lake goes down, there are lures to be gathered from the submerged stumps and rocks.

When I lived in the Rio Grande Valley, I would visit Falcon Lake regularly since I called on clients in Roma TX. Once, I observed some very young Mexican boys fishing with lures they had found on the rocks near the lake side of the dam. They would scavange these lures with lost lines, wrap them around a beer can and ust that as an imprompteau spinning reel. They were quite good at slinging thier new found lures out and catching sand bass. I joined them and intended to show them how modern equipment worked.

Instead, they showed me how improvisation could also work quite well, in that they could cast, retrieve a short distance with a caught bass faster than I could. Now, there were things I could do but in this case wasn't needed to catch the sand bass which were close to the bank. Just Sayin...RJS
