Did you keep the guitar? What type? Some are worth big bucks now in the right condition.

The guitar was a Silvertone, red/black sunburst; not expensive but much sentimental (sweat) value. LOL I had it for about 10 years when a woman who had bought a house I designed, drew the plans, and helped build was talking to me one day about her son wanting a guitar. I told her about mine but also told her I really didn’t want to get rid of it.
Her son really wanted to learn, so I told her I would sell it to her on one condition. I told her “give me $75 and if/when he decides to sell it, I’ll buy it back for $75.” She bought it, moved away, and I never saw it again. Always wondered where she and the guitar ended up. I had already bought another when I was 17 or 18 and STILL have that one. It’s a 1967 Gibson Melody Maker SG 3.
Slight upgrade from the old Silvertone! LOL
Thought you might like a peek....

Sweet. Have you done any research on the value? May not be an elite one but still might have some value. Looks in great shape from the pics.

Six or eight years ago I checked on the Gibson site, and it listed a “good” condition value to be $1800. Mine is close to immaculate and all original. Only played at church for about 5 years. Has a belt buckle scratch on the back, but perfect other than a
hairline crack in the lower front of pick guard at the screw. It’s quite a rare model as they only had 3 pickups for a couple years. Most only have two.

The guitar in the picture is the one I have, not the one I sold. Back then was in the pre-Google years. The last I heard of the woman who bought it was she had remarried and moved away. Didn’t know where. I just hope her son learned to play and enjoyed the guitar. If so it’s OK. I still have the very first guitar ( a 3/4 size acoustic) I ever had. Got it for my eighth birthday. It is also a Silvertone (Sears).

Born in 1942, listened to the radio for entertainment after coming in from playing with friends all day. Inner Sanctum, The Shadow, Johnny Dollar, Lone Ranger, Red Ryder, Cisco Kid, Lash Larue, Roy Rogers, Gene Autry, Saw Song of the South when it first came out, Howdy Doody and Clarabelle. At night at bed time tuned in the Lucky Lager Dance Time and listened to music to go to sleep, LSMFT-Lucky Strike Means Fine Tobacco or as my father told me Loose Sweaters mean floppy t---, even marched around the breakfast table with Don McNeil. Nope, don't remember those days at all.

Hey Wulffy, it would be interesting to see what your SIL thinks my guitar is worth. Is he in Colorado?

Great stuff BB, thanks for the memories and an amen to everything said. Born in '48 and it's all true. Remember every day after school walking with my dog to my friends house, we would be outside all day, the dogs would play together until we whistled for them and we would go home for dinner. Friend and I still best friends 60+ years later
