Here we use Lucky Craft 110. Try to match what bait fish are out there. Here we use smelt or mackerel lures in the surf.
All of the other advice posted here is good advice
Mix it up, sometimes they are hungry other times they just want to attack it.
Good luck, sometimes the learning process is fun when you fine the right combination that works.
But what works today may not work tomorrow.

Hi Mr. Larry,
Now that I think about it, it shouldn't be to much of an issue in the surf. Especially if we follow the advice that was given to us. We would feel it dig into the sand. And we only surf fish a couple hours before sunrise and and one or two before sunset, to many people out on the beach during the day.

We are going to start trying some Piers during the day. And rumor has it a lot of snagging going on. This is our first season ever using lures, paddle tails, top water lures. We tried to get a little of everything. Only used frozen or salted baits in the past. Beth ordered two more last night that was recommended yesterday.

Zoey :)

Good luck out there.
I prefer lures over bait most of the time in the bay or ocean.
In the surf I mostly use bait but if I bring my sand spike I'll let the bait soak and throw a lure also.
I don't know much about freshwater fishing except maybe for trout but then it's bait or a super duper lure. I just go out there and throw the line in and see what happens. LOL.

Hi,
When we ordered two of these, I think we made a mistake. On the package it says six to twelve feet. It's more like two to five feet on the surf at high tide. And on Bayside or should I say the Sound side. It's one to seven feet deep depending on where we go.

We would like to try and use these. But we don't want to lose them. Is there a way to modify them? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Zoey

The twitch and let float method will not only keep you off the bottom, but will get the fish excited.

Hi Mr. Larry,
Beth and I never use live bait like the guys. We only have saltwater fished. We will bring our stuff home this time when we leave. We are going to try freshwater fishing for the first time. We would never use live bait like the others. We think it's cruel and don't like it. But the others use it, it's ok. But we just can't do it :(

Nothin wrong with that. If you can learn to catch fish on artificial baits then that's great. However, sometimes nothing beats live bait. Specially worms and minnows. Just Sayin.

Hi Mr. FixorFish,
I still have the package, it says. Kinchou is everything you need, an aggressive "wobble action" covering the widest range of water depths from six to twelve feet - CRANK it or troll. This distressed beauty is perfectly balanced to float at rest or take off and dive when retrieved.

We are also using 30lb braided line with 25lb Florocarbon leader with a snap swivel.

The angle of the lip is the deciding factor here. The more vertical the lip is to the lure, the shallower it will run.
As previously noted, applying heat to the lip (plastic) will allow you to bend it down. 90 degree vertical and the lure will run on the surface, so you probably will want to try half way between where it is at now and 90 degree vertical. DO NOT use too much heat. Also, if you choose to do this, make sure you don't bend the lip with an angle that tilts the lip right or left as the lure will no longer run straight. Take you time, don't use excessive heat (you must start out with a little heat and increase until the lip bends) and you will not ruin the lure. You can bend it back to the original angle the same way. Even if things go way wrong, the lip can always be replaced with another. Jann's Netcraft offers a variety of lip sizes and designs.
Cheers🐟

I know. Gotta be careful with them. You can always pinch the head/mouth off them first and that takes care of that. They are really good bait sometimes, that's for sure. Hope you girls are havin fun. Say HI to Beth. Y'all be safe. Good luck and tight lines.

Ok Zoey, I know you won't use live bait, but if you are seeing sand fleas in the surf, check the bait house for frozen ones, they have been cooked and will stay on the hooks lot better. You are not hurting them. Then fish the surf but in the troughs. You already know about the wired (sputnick?) sinkers. Look for pompano, redfish, trout, flounder (maybe out of season in NC), whiting.
Also get some fish bites (they come in pink) and tip some of your pink jigs with swim tails on them, cast out as far as you can and slowly bring them back trying to keep contact with the bottom. The surf and current will provide all the action needed. Only a few dollars, but may make a world of difference. Also give you an idea of where the fish are actually biting in surf.
Good luck and have fun. .

Hi Mr. olddawg,
Thank you, we bought a lot of it, but wasn't really sure what to with some of the Gulp products. We also have gulp live containers with the white curly tail things, 2" peeler crabs, four or six inch sand worms and the two inch packs, Salted clams, sand flees, frozen crab. Well girls do like to shop :) Yes, we have many sand flees wash up on the incoming tide.

We forgot that we had sand flees, probably because we bought to much stuff. Plus salted oysters, squid, squid tentacles, shrimp, mussels and frozen shinners. Well we were excited. Most of we bought late winter when the prices were lower. I hope the gulp products last a long time. The salted one's should. After we use them we seal in a clean vacuumed pack and keep in the refrigerator along with the unopened salted baits. We appreciate any advice we get.

Always,
Zoey :)

Hi everyone,
Hate to be a pest,
probably should have asked you guy's before we ordered them. Won't do that again, we went on buying spree. Today we received two items in the mail. Two D.O A. Popping bobbers with an artificial soft plastic shrimp on them and the leader is about two or three feet.

Should we try these on the surf or Bayside/sound side or both. We would also add the Sweet Shrimp bait stick for extra scent. One of us will reply in the morning. Getting dinner ready, then by the time we clean up will be pretty tired.

Zoey :)
