I have a tackle box full of lures that are decades old. Is there a way to clean that is not going to leave a film on the lure? Do the old non-metal boxes off-gas that makes for a need to clean ever so often? TCF

Clean if you can with just warm water and a soft tooth brush, box too. Baking soda helps if you need it. Try one lure with the soda and check it afterwards. Old wooden lures you have to be careful.

TCF California gold country covers a lot of area. I’ve lived in Mariposa, Calaveras and Toulumne county’s. Care to be more specific? We’re a curious bunch here. Lol.

Warm water with some Dawn in it for a soak. Dawn cuts grease and oil really well - they use it to get oil off of birds after oil spills. Then rinse really well in warm water.

I would avoid Simple Green, efficient, but can be detrimental to some paints and plastic coatings... learned the hard way on my RV, even diluted. I like Dawn and a soft toothbrush for this sort of cleaning, just rinse SUPER WELL, .....like three times more/longer than you would anything else.

You can also use Dawn to wash fleas off your pets. Just read about that today. I'm using food grade Diatomaceous Earth on my carpet and couch to eventually kill the fleas.

If you have lures that are clouding up (MirroLures are notorious go doing it) use a hair dryer on the low hot setting. It will clear them up completely. They'll last another several years and then you can do it again if you want to keep them. I always keep them. They are great when other lures aren't producing results.
I believe there are a few You Tube videos showing step by step how it's done.

Use a magic eraser, simple, easy, fast. It cleans all the crud off. Take the hooks off before cleaning.

Whatever you do, never use any type of window cleaner on any thing associated with fishing. Wife cleaned a bass mount I had once, I now have an albino bass with blue eyes. Think it lost weight too.
