I know a little about bass but I've never heard of a freshwater rock bass. What is it please? Go catch some more and post more pics, and thanks for the one you did post.

It is a sunfish, also known as a rock perch, native to the NE and NC US. Good fighters, fun to catch on light tackle. I didn’t know they were regional until I looked them up.

Fishing Fool-

Ha ha! I like the way you think!
I saw a few monsters in there. They we’re smarter than me today. Taunting me while I was trying to remember my password for the DEC fishing license page. I pretty sure I heard one laughing. They knew I was woefully unprepared. I won’t let that happen again.

I know exactly how you feel. I’ve been thinking about getting a bumper sticker that says “fish giggle when they hear my name “.
Nice catch and picture. Thanks for sharing.

After a painfully slow fall salmon and brown trout season I wasn’t rushing to get back out there.
Today I was headed out to our bay off Lake Ontario to just spend some time near the water (on a very hot day) where we belong to a small sailing club.
I was sitting on the dock renewing my expired fishing license and then had to attend a zoom meeting- all the while fish were jumping around me. By the time I got my line wet this guy was the last fish standing. Rock Bass, small, but at least he pulled a bit. All I needed was that reminder of how fun that first one of the new season is. So I’ve been bitten again too. Time to clear my schedule and get down there earlier.
Caught him on a light 6 ft Ugly Stick with 8lb line and a white Gulp minnow.
After a painfully slow fall salmon and brown trout... (show quote)

Good job Jenene, now that you're warmed up, go get'em! Thanks for the great picture.

Google eye. Those I've heard of. Did not know they're also called rock bass. What it says at the bottom of my posts.
