First day back out there since fall.

After a painfully slow fall salmon and brown trout season I wasn’t rushing to get back out there.
Today I was headed out to our bay off Lake Ontario to just spend some time near the water (on a very hot day) where we belong to a small sailing club.
I was sitting on the dock renewing my expired fishing license and then had to attend a zoom meeting- all the while fish were jumping around me. By the time I got my line wet this guy was the last fish standing. Rock Bass, small, but at least he pulled a bit. All I needed was that reminder of how fun that first one of the new season is. So I’ve been bitten again too. Time to clear my schedule and get down there earlier.
Caught him on a light 6 ft Ugly Stick with 8lb line and a white Gulp minnow.

Thank you Gordon,

Your message got me thinking... that water is only a 5 minute drive away! What was I waiting for?

Thanks for that push!

Fishing Fool-

Ha ha! I like the way you think!
I saw a few monsters in there. They we’re smarter than me today. Taunting me while I was trying to remember my password for the DEC fishing license page. I pretty sure I heard one laughing. They knew I was woefully unprepared. I won’t let that happen again.

I know a little about bass but I've never heard of a freshwater rock bass. What is it please? Go catch some more and post more pics, and thanks for the one you did post.

Thanks for your note. I’m attaching a quick Wikipedia note. It’s actually not a true bass but in the sunfish family. I enjoyed looking it up because I didn’t realize the max size is usually 6-8 inches. It seems I’ve caught some granddaddies in there. They tend run run big in there I guess.
Thanks for the note! Our bass season starts this Saturday. My favorite time of year.
