Pretty basic fare. Mine is a little more colorful than that. But it looks good. Leave the shrimp on the plate for me if you like, I'll eat em.

I will eat it the way its pictured. If you really want a laugh a lot of the locals around here won’t eat grits unless it has Maple Syrup on them. What a waste of some good eatin!

I once ordered a bowl of grits for breakfast at a diner (forget where) and they brought it to me with milk on it, like a bowl of oatmeal. With one of them sugar shakers like for your coffee. My dad used to pour the grits into a big empty soup can and let it set up in the fridge, then slice em and fry em in bacon fat. Then pour sorghum molasses on it. Ever had that?

An ole boy down in Louisiana that cooked us a dinner out on a job site actually did hush puppies and the grit cakes - but no sorghum. Just grilled with some cajun spice sprinkled and a little butter on on top. Way good

I have eaten them like that with sorghum and also in a bowl like oatmeal with butter, sugar, and milk. Cracker Barrel serves grits in a bowl. Some other small diners do too here in Kansas.

I don't know if you can even get sorghum in California. We couldn't in Indiana - my dad's sister who lived in Arkansas used to send us a jug of it at Christmas time each year.

Can't say I have. But I'll cook my grits with velveeta cheese.

It is sometimes hard to find , but we look for it when in The Ozarks, Arkansas, and the Amish towns like Jamesport Mo. There’s an Amish store there that has all kinds of homemade stuff and bulk goods that are really good and great prices. We go there every now and then and stock up. It’s only about 120 miles from Lawrence.

Cheesy grit are great with velveeta and grated sharp/ex sharp and some diced up jalapeños. Some times add chopped up bacon. Can never go wrong with bacon in a dish - L O L!
