I went over to the ocean side of the eastern shore of Virginia yesterday looking for flounder. No flounder but the skates kept me busy all day. Caught 16 of them and nothing else. i tried to go out into the ocean but it was a little too rough for my flat bottom skiff. I launched out of Wachapreague. Beautiful day. Saw a seal near the mouth of the inlet. Fairly rare sight in this area.

Welcome to the Forum, Brian. Thanks for filling out everything correctly. well,,,,, the day wasn't a complete waste. Skates are fun to catch, but that is about as far as it goes.

Brian, I'm in Chesapeake also. I think it's just a little too early as the water hasn't warmed yet. I'm so danged anxious to get after the flatties myself. I think you'll see them at Ruddi or Lynnhaven and maybe even LittleCreek before Wachapreague although later it's the hot spot. Not bad for tarpon either. Mike

But its nearly the end of May. Years back the flounder bite turned on in April at the Wachapreague inlet. Or at least thats the way I remember it.
